Au Pair Choices SUMMER PLACEMENTS: These can either be an au pair, au pair plus or an au pair couple, who wish to come during the long summer holidays (1-4 months) while generally on university, further education or career breaks. Their level of English is average to excellent and they want to have a change of culture and brush up on their language whilst being a huge help to families during the long summer holidays. This is a great option for any family who need the freedom of an extra pair of hands at this busy time of year: whether playing with tots, ferrying older children around or helping parents generally. Pocket money ranges depend on hours worked but starts from £65 per week in return for 25 hours help for an au pair. AU PAIR: Normally works 5 hours per day, 5 days a week and baby-sits for up to 2 evenings per week. They must have two days free per week, which should include one weekend a month and must receive a minimum of £65 per week pocket money. They must also be allowed time off to attend an English Language course. AU PAIR PLUS: They are not dissimilar to a regular au pair but they might work between 30-35 hours max per week, babysit for 2/3 evenings per week, and must receive a minimum of £85 pocket money per week. People who live as part of a family (but who are not members of the family) and who share in the work and leisure activities of the household do not need to be paid the National Minimum Wage.
